Vastworx WordPress Theme, (C) 2026 Berowsma Studios.
Vastworx is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL version 2 or later.

The name is deliberately distinct from the block theme it replaces so both can
sit in the theme list at once. Switching between them is instant and
reversible, which is the point: activate this, look at the site, and switch
back in one click if anything is wrong. Rename it once you are satisfied.

WHAT CHANGED, AND WHY

This was a block theme. That alone is what made wp-admin show an Appearance ->
Editor "Design" section with its own Navigation, Pages and Templates screens,
and what left Appearance -> Menus empty: core hides Menus for block themes and
navigation lives in a Navigation block instead. None of it was the theme's
doing, and none of it could be turned off while templates/index.html existed --
WP_Theme::is_block_theme() looks for exactly that file and nothing else.

Deleting templates/ and parts/ and writing PHP templates puts site structure
back where WordPress already manages it.

Kept wholesale: theme.json, tokens.css, components.css, the fonts, the icon
sprite, the block styles, and all eleven content patterns. theme.json is gated
on wp_theme_has_theme_json(), never on wp_is_block_theme(), so every
--wp--preset--* variable the components depend on is still emitted.

Added: assets/css/layout.css. The block theme carried NO layout of its own --
the content measure, the wide escape, root padding and every gap came from
core's block layout engine, which does not run for hand-written PHP.

This file contains only the theme header. All styling lives in:
assets/css/tokens.css L0 primitives (the ONLY file with hex values)
theme.json L1 presets (var() references only)
assets/css/layout.css L1.5 layout (var() references only)
assets/css/components/*.css L2 components (var() references only)
Templates and patterns carry class names only -- never a <style> block.
